image001Feeling hot all the time is an indicator of numerous conditions including stress, hot flashes due to menopause as well as hyperthyroidism.   • Dong Quai is used to treat post menstrual syndrome, hypertension, ulcers, infertility and joint pain. It is also used to normalize your body temperature and relieve you from hot flashes.
  • Ginseng helps in combating the menopausal symptoms including feeling hot all the time.
  • Try using Kava when you feel extremely hot.

Medical Treatments

  • In a hormone therapy, progesterone and estrogen are used to mitigate your hot flashes. Women who have their uterus removed should take only estrogen but women with a uterus should take both these hormones. However, if you have had breast cancer or a blood clot, you should refrain from getting this therapy.
  • Use some antidepressants including Venlafaxine like Pristiq and Effexor, Fluoxetineto like Prozac and Sarafem, and Paroxetine like Pexeva and Paxil to treat your hot flashes. These medications are less effective for severe hot flashes compared to hormone therapy, and cause side effects including dizziness, nausea, sexual dysfunction and weight gain. However, they are helpful for women who cannot use hormone therapy.
  • Take other medications like Gabapentin and Clonidine to get relief from the continuously rising heat in your body. Gabapentin is an anti-seizure and can help in lowering your body temperature; however, it does have side effects like headaches, drowsiness and dizziness. Clonidine is a pill used to relieve the symptoms of high blood pressure and can also help in reducing the hot flashes. Its negative offshoots include drowsiness, constipation, dry mouth and dizziness.

Hyperthyroidism

One can also experience hot when suffering from thyroid disorders. If the thyroid gland produces thyroxin in excess, more heat is created in your body. When this feeling persists for longer time then it means you are suffering from hyperthyroid syndrome. This disorder is generally treatable and if you do experience these symptoms, you should immediately visit your doctor.

Home Remedies

  • Adopt a healthy lifestyle and eat lots of fresh fruits and green vegetables and drink lots of water so that your body stays healthy and is able to fight against disorders in a better manner.
  • Increase intake of calcium and vitamin D as hyperthyroidism also makes your bones thin so you need an adequate supply of calcium and vitamin D so your bones stay strong and healthy. Take at least 1000 mg of calcium every day through the milk or dairy product or via a supplement; and you need to take 600 IUs of vitamin D a day.
  • Exercise on a daily basis to keep your body in a good shape and your mind fresh and active. It makes your bones and muscles strong and helps you in fighting off hyperthyroidism.
  • Practice meditation to relax your mind as a number of diseases can be prevented if you are able to discharge negativity.

Medical Treatments

  • Take anti-thyroid medications including methimazole and propylthiouracil. Take them after consulting your doctor as they can be fatal for you as well.
  • Radioactive iodine can reduce hot feelings, which is taken orally and is absorbed by the thyroid gland where it shrinks the gland and slows down its effects. This treatment is quite slow and takes a lot of time to show positive results.
  • If you do not want to use these two treatments or are pregnant, you could undergo a surgery to treat hyperthyroidism.
  • Beta blockers are generally used to reduce high blood pressure, and they won’t exactly affect your thyroid levels but can help in relieving its effects including increased heart rate and palpitations.

Other Causes

There are other causes of experiencing hot flashes but these reasons aren’t as alarming as the two aforementioned ones.

  • When you increase your caffeine intake or are under a lot of stress, your body temperature shoots up and you start feeling hot all the time.
  • Eating a lot of spicy foods and consuming alcohol in excess can also result in this feeling.
  • In addition to that, smoking frequently can result in heartburn and increase your body temperature as well.
