There are at least 55 million tons of apples picked every year from assorted varieties that range in taste and texture. Apples are packed with nutrition and low in calories, plus they provide your body with water. Apples contain at least 80 to 90 percent water and are high in vitamins and antioxidants. They are rich in the following nutrients; Beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C (mostly contained in the skin area of the apple), iron, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and two important antioxidants polyphenols and flavanoids. You will be able to tell when an apple is at its perfect ripeness by the amount of scent it gives off from the skin.
